What is Threshing Day?
In the Empyrean series, Threshing is the day when first-year cadets who have survived long enough walk into a field of unbonded dragons. The cadets don’t do the choosing — the dragons do. A bond formed at Threshing lasts a lifetime, and not every cadet leaves the field with one.
Threshing Day is also the name of a 2026 companion book set in the same world. This quiz focuses on the moment of choosing: it matches your personality to one of six dragon colors, from fiery reds to rare blacks.
Dragon colors explained
Each color comes with the kind of rider we think it would look for. The pairings are our own fan interpretation, not canon.
Red
Fierce, proud, and quick to act. Reds respect riders who show courage and speak their minds, even when the room goes quiet.
Orange
Volatile and hard to predict. Oranges tend to bond with riders who trust their instincts and don’t mind standing out.
Green
Measured and clever. Greens look for riders who think before they move and ask the questions nobody else does.
Brown
Steady and enduring. Browns favor riders whose loyalty doesn’t waver when things get hard.
Blue
Devoted and strategic. Blues suit riders with quiet depth who would do anything to protect the people they love.
Black
Rare and formidable. Blacks choose seldom, and only a rider with an unbreakable will earns their regard.
Dragon tail types
Riders also describe dragons by the shape of their tails. Here is what each name suggests about how that dragon fights. Tail type doesn’t change your quiz result.
Daggertail
A tail that tapers to a long, sharp point. Think fast, precise strikes.
Swordtail
A blade-like edge along the tail, made for slashing at close range.
Clubtail
A heavy mass at the tip. Less finesse, a lot more impact.
Morningstartail
A club studded with spikes: the force of a clubtail with an extra edge.
Scorpiontail
A curved, stinger-like tip that strikes from above. Often called the most dangerous of the five.

Threshing Day quiz FAQ
Which dragon would choose me?
Take the quiz above. Your answers are matched against six dragon colors, and the color whose personality fits you best is shown instantly, along with your runner-ups.
What dragon colors are in this quiz?
Six: red, orange, green, brown, blue, and black. Each has its own personality profile in the “Dragon colors explained” section above.
Is this the official dragonkind quiz?
No. This is an independent, unofficial fan quiz. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Rebecca Yarros, Entangled Publishing, Red Tower Books, or the official dragonkind site.
Does tail type affect my result?
No. Your result is a dragon color. Tail types are explained above for fun, but they are not part of the scoring.
How is my result calculated?
Every option adds points to one or two dragon colors. The color with the most points wins; ties go to the color your later answers favored. The same answers always give the same dragon.
Do you store my answers?
No. Your answers are scored in your browser and never sent to us. We use Google Analytics to count visits and completed quizzes, including which result was shown, but no account or name is involved.
